Health and Safety policy
Health and Safety Policy for Removal Van Knightsbridge
Removal Van Knightsbridge is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and delivery activities. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our aims, responsibilities and working procedures to help ensure that all removal work is planned and carried out safely across our operating areas.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
We recognise our duty to manage health and safety risks arising from our operations and to comply with applicable health and safety legislation and approved codes of practice. Our objectives are to prevent accidents and work-related ill health, protect property, and maintain high standards of safety in all removal and transport activities.
Senior management is responsible for providing leadership in health and safety, allocating adequate resources, and ensuring that this policy is implemented, monitored and reviewed. All employees, contractors and partners are expected to cooperate fully with this policy and to take reasonable care of their own safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Responsibilities
The management of Removal Van Knightsbridge will:
Plan, organise and supervise work to minimise health and safety risks associated with removals, packing, loading, transport and delivery. Provide and maintain safe vehicles, tools, lifting equipment and personal protective equipment suitable for removal work. Ensure that employees receive appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision to carry out their roles safely. Carry out regular risk assessments and review control measures to keep them effective and up to date. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence. Consult with employees on health and safety matters and encourage suggestions for improvement.
All employees have a duty to:
Follow health and safety procedures, safe systems of work and instructions provided by supervisors and managers. Use vehicles, equipment and personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects immediately. Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of colleagues, clients and members of the public. Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions without delay. Co-operate with training, risk assessments and health and safety initiatives.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Removal Van Knightsbridge carries out systematic risk assessments for typical removal activities, including packing, loading, unloading, driving, access to properties, and handling of furniture and personal belongings. For more complex or high-risk tasks, site-specific assessments are completed.
Findings from risk assessments are used to develop safe systems of work, covering matters such as manual handling, use of trolleys and ramps, safe stacking and securing of loads, vehicle movements, working in confined or shared spaces, and protection of fragile or heavy items. These procedures are communicated to staff and, where appropriate, to clients.
Manual Handling and Lifting
Manual handling is central to our removal services and is managed carefully to reduce the risk of injury. All staff involved in lifting and carrying receive training in safe manual handling techniques. Wherever possible, mechanical aids such as sack trucks, dollies, sliders and ramps are used to reduce the need for heavy lifting.
Work is planned so that large or awkward items are handled by sufficient personnel, taking account of weight, shape, access routes and any specific hazards. Breaks and rotation of tasks are used where appropriate to reduce fatigue associated with repetitive handling.
Vehicles, Driving and Road Safety
Our vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition, with regular inspections and servicing carried out by competent personnel. Drivers must hold the appropriate driving licences and are required to follow all road traffic laws and company driving procedures.
Loads are packed and secured to prevent shifting during transit, protecting both road users and the goods being transported. Travel routes are planned where reasonably practicable to minimise risks, taking account of traffic conditions, access restrictions and safe parking for loading and unloading at properties.
Working at Client Properties
When working at residential or commercial premises, our teams take steps to protect the safety of clients, visitors and the public. This includes maintaining clear walkways, using warning signs or barriers where needed, and taking care with doors, stairways and shared entrances.
Extra attention is given to high-density or busy streets, where vehicle movements and loading activities must be planned to minimise obstruction and risk to pedestrians and other road users. Where necessary, staff will coordinate with clients to schedule work at times that are safer and less disruptive.
Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment and Housekeeping
All tools, trolleys, straps and moving equipment are selected for suitability and are inspected regularly. Faulty equipment is taken out of use immediately until repaired or replaced. Staff are provided with appropriate personal protective equipment, which may include safety footwear, gloves and high-visibility clothing, depending on the tasks and environment.
Good housekeeping is maintained in vehicles, storage areas and on-site, with an emphasis on keeping access routes clear, minimising trip hazards and managing waste such as packing materials responsibly and safely.
Training, Information and Supervision
Employees receive induction training that covers this Health and Safety Policy, emergency arrangements and safe working procedures relevant to removal operations. Additional task-specific training, including manual handling, use of lifting and securing equipment, and safe driving practices, is provided and refreshed as needed.
Supervisors monitor day-to-day work to ensure that safe practices are followed and that new or inexperienced staff are supported adequately. Health and safety information is communicated through briefings, toolbox talks and regular updates.
Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported to management as soon as possible. Records are kept and investigations carried out to identify causes and corrective actions. First aid provisions are maintained in vehicles and at relevant work locations, and staff know how to access emergency assistance when required.
Emergency procedures are in place for foreseeable situations such as fire, serious injury, vehicle breakdowns and road traffic incidents. Staff are briefed on these procedures and their responsibilities in an emergency.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
Removal Van Knightsbridge monitors health and safety performance through inspections, incident reports, feedback from staff and clients, and periodic reviews of risk assessments and procedures. This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when there are significant changes in operations, legislation or identified risks.
We are committed to continual improvement in our health and safety performance, recognising that safe working practices support the quality and reliability of our removal services across the areas we serve.
